Abstract

We develop an analytical Fokker-Planck model of cellular tissue growth. Applying the model to experimental data, we find that human cerebral tissue growth is a self organized critical process, characterized by power-law distributions of cell population sizes. Furthermore, our analysis reveals that cerebral tissue growth is not a deterministic process with small stochastic fluctuations, but is instead driven by stochasticity.
