Abstract

In this talk, I am going to discuss some interesting features of excess electronic charges accumulated around localized spatial defects such as boundaries, impurities, and dislocations (domain walls) in one-dimensional insulators. You might find this talk interesting if you are interested in some of the following: charge fractionalization, topological invariants, bulk-boundary correspondence, quantum hall effect, modern theory of polarization, Wannier functions, and metal-insulator phase transitions.
