Abstract
In this talk, I will discuss a recent proposal for a topologically protected qubit in Majorana devices that is currently being implemented in several experimental labs. After explaining how to initialize, read out, and manipulate such a qubit in terms of well-established electronic operations, the implementation of quantum gates for quantum computation will be addressed. As a long-term perspective, extended networks of such qubits can allow to construct Majorana surface codes or even more complicated topological codes. In addition, such networks can be used as novel quantum simulators, e.g., for string net phases. We will also discuss how the proper functioning of such devices can be checked through studying quantum transport.
